The Adult Industry Awards Database (AIWARDS) is an online database of awards issued by the porn industry to honor pornographic films, actresses, actors, directors, industry professionals, studios, sites, sex toys and more.[1] Currently, AIWARDS focuses on tracking awards issued by the US sex industry.

As of April 2018, AIWARDS tracks over 100 ceremonies of AVN, XRCO, XBIZ, and NightMoves awards.[2]

History

The project was launched on 11 July 2017 with over 4,000 winners.[3] According to the owner, it took around two and a half years to develop the database and fill it with data.

The sources of information about the winners include official press releases, adult magazines, and the Internet Archive. In difficult cases, where the source is ambiguous or some part of the data is absent, manual research in physical archives is conducted to gather missing information about the ceremony of interest.[4]

In October 2017, the project team released a press release with interesting facts concerning the 2017 NightMoves Award show.[5]

In January 2018, AIWARDS added the ability to search for winners by name in the database.[6]

In November 2018, the database was extended to track F.A.M.E. Awards, The Fannys, and TheSexAwards.[7] In the same month, AIWARDS received its first nomination for the 2019 XBIZ Awards in the category "Fan Site of the Year".[8]

AIWARDS.com is partnered with an online adult retailer AdultDVDEmpire.com, which provides media content for the database and pays affiliate commission for products purchased through AIWARDS.

Research

AIWARDS' main goal is to track all the trophies ever issued in the sex industry. Specifically, the project aims to find the winners of old and already discontinued awards.

The first step in this direction was taken right after the initial launch of the website with the identification of the missing winners of XRCO Awards between 1985 and 1993. According to information from the X-Rated Critics Organization,[9] the winners prior to 1993 were missing, and the organization asked anyone who had the information to contact them.

On 16 November 2017, AIWARDS released the full list of the winners in the missing range.[10] During the investigation, the project's team studied a fair number of old magazines (which were bought from old archives), video materials of the ceremonies, photos of that period, and books.
